Pahalgam - A Gateway To Nature's Beauty!

Pahalgam which is also known as the village of shepherds is situated in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is located at the height of 7200 ft above sea level. It is a four hour journey from Srinagar. This belt has got ample fresh greenary and water. One who has been to Pahalgam even once can easily argue that it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on earth. That is the reason why it is a popular tourist destination. Another benefit for the tourists is that there are many hotels and resorts in Pahalgam. The options of trekking are also available here. You can trek on some of the many mountains. Lidderwat, Kolohoi and Sonmarg are the great options for the same. These trekking trails can also be visited on horseback.

During the perfect winters the snow skiing is the perfect option for fun and amusement.The best time to visit it is during the summers i.e betweeen the months of April and November.Pahalgam also provides the entry for the popular Amarnath Cave. This cave is a holy site for the Hindus.

Pahalgam has a beautiful river called Liddar nearby. It's sparkling water is a peaceful view for your eyes. A lot of picnic spots have sprung aroun the River Laddar. Pahalgam lies in Asia's only saffron growing area. These saffron plants can be seen in their full bloom during the month of November. During the spring season you can see a lovely carpet of colourful wild flowers. The Liddar valley in Pahalgam provides you a breathtaking view.

As illegal border crossing can be done from Pahalgam so the Indian Army is always patrolling here and the area is on high alert. The villagers are always alert because some of the wild animals like wild bears can move in. The population do not carry firearms and so these bears are saved from extinction. Monkeys can also be found here. Though these monkeys are harmless but they do not leave the chance of grabbing food from the visitors.

The lush green pine forests and the snow covered peaks of the mighty Himalayan range can be seen clearly from Pahalgam. Someone has rightly said that the visit to Kashmir is incomplete without visiting the Pahalgam hill station.
