Idukki Hill Station

A hill station that gives you a feeling of relaxation and makes you more close to the nature is Idukki Hill Station, the word has been taken from e Malayalam word Idukku that means a narrow ravine , there is a river periyar that rages down the gorge between the two lofty peaks of the Idukki..there are around 14 peaks in the district of Idukki and their height is 2000 meters.

In this region there are three important rivers Thodupuzhayar, Periyar and Thalayar, a beautiful river Pamba has got its place in the wonderful scenic surroundings,you will also find the tribes like Malampandaram, Malayarayan,Paliyan,Mannan, Malavedan, Ulladan and Urali, these tribes follow their culture they preserve their heritage which is somehow different from another castes.

One of the main attraction of Idukki is wonderful Idukki Arch Dam that has been made between Kuravathi and Kuravan hiils they have got their place across the Periyar River, it is Asia's biggest dam well it is very famous picnic spot, another beautiful spots are Kulamavu Dam and Cheruthoni Barrage, very beautiful picnic spot is Malankara Dam. Idukki Hill Station has also got Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary that preserves the wildlife of this region.

A sandal wood forest called Marayoor has so many medicinal herbs, the place that is going to catch your hold is Kuthumkal Waterfalls another is Keezar Kuthu is a beautiful waterfall, Idukki Hill Station is vary famous for coffee, tea, spice and rubber plantations.A must place to visit really.
