Pahalgam which is also known as the village of shepherds is situated in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is located at the height of 7200 ft above sea level. It is a four hour journey from Srinagar. This belt has got ample fresh greenary and water. Pahalgam lies in Asia's only saffron growing area. These saffron plants can be seen in their full bloom during the month of November. During the spring season you can see a lovely carpet of colourful wild flowers. The Liddar valley in Pahalgam provides you a breathtaking view.
As illegal border crossing can be done from Pahalgam so the Indian Army is always patrolling here and the area is on high alert. The villagers are always alert because some of the wild animals like wild bears can move in. The population do not carry firearms and so these bears are saved from extinction. Monkeys can also be found here. Though these monkeys are harmless but they do not leave the chance of grabbing food from the visitors.
